Picture this: you’re chest-deep in a heated hot tub, drink in hand, drifting past the Washington Monument as the sky turns gold over the Potomac. That’s how you want to see Washington, DC’s most iconic landmarks. Not shuffling between crowded tour buses or walking miles of pavement. Just warm water, great views and the people you chose to bring. It’s a relaxing way to sightsee, and it runs year-round.
A Hot Tub Boat Experience, Not a Typical DC Tour

A hot tub boat is a small, private vessel with built-in heated tubs, designed for sightseeing while you stay in the water. Each boat has two tubs that hold up to 10 guests each, so you can book one tub or the whole boat for up to 20 people. Your group is the only group aboard.
The 90-minute cruise leaves from The Wharf in Southwest DC and follows the Potomac River past the monuments along the National Mall shoreline. Instead of moving from stop to stop, the landmarks come to you. Bring your playlist, connect to the Bluetooth speakers and let the captain handle the route. Exact sightlines and their order vary with tide and river traffic.
What You’ll See on a Hot Tub Boat Cruise in DC
You’ll pass the landmarks most visitors travel to Washington to see, and you’ll see them from the water, without the lines and the crowds. Here’s what unfolds around you as you relax.
The Washington Monument: The Skyline’s High Point

At 555 feet, the Washington Monument is the tallest structure in DC, and it was once the tallest building in the world. From the river it rises above the entire skyline, which is exactly why it’s the first landmark most guests point out. On land you’d have to crane your neck. On the water you get the whole obelisk in one frame, with the skyline and the river around it.

The Lincoln Memorial: A Neoclassical Icon at the Water’s Edge

The Lincoln Memorial anchors the western end of the National Mall, and the Potomac gives you an angle that visitors on the steps never get. Its 36 columns, one for each state in the Union when Lincoln died, glow as the light fades. It’s one of the most famous landmarks in DC, and you’ll be taking it in while you soak in a hot tub.

The Jefferson Memorial: Domed Elegance Beside the Tidal Basin

The domed Jefferson Memorial honors Thomas Jefferson, the third president and primary writer of the Declaration of Independence. It sits on the south side of the Tidal Basin, and it’s especially striking in spring when the cherry trees bloom around it. Our Jefferson Memorial hot tub boat cruise page covers what to expect, and the Jefferson Memorial visitors guide shows the best walking route. Visiting in spring? The Kennedy Center: Glowing Along the Potomac

The nation’s premier performing arts center sits right on the Potomac shoreline, and it looks best from the water after dark, when its glass and marble catch the evening light. If you’re planning a visit, our Kennedy Center visitors guide has what to know before you go.
Arlington Memorial Bridge: The Link Between Two Memorials
Arlington Memorial Bridge stretches across the Potomac between Washington, DC and Virginia, carrying traffic from the Lincoln Memorial toward Arlington National Cemetery. From a boat, you’ll see its arches framed against the river and the memorial behind them. Our Arlington Memorial Bridge visitors guide shares the history and the best viewpoints.
The National Mall Shoreline: Monuments in a Single Sweep

The National Mall runs from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial, with the Washington Monument roughly in the middle. From the river, the monuments line up along the shoreline in a way you can’t see from the lawn. If you want to explore it on foot too, start with our National Mall visitor guide.
The Wharf: Where the Cruise Begins

Cruises launch from The Wharf at 650 Wharf St SW in Southwest DC, minutes from the heart of the city. It’s a lively waterfront of restaurants, music and views, so it’s easy to make a night of it before or after your cruise.
Why a Hot Tub Boat Is the Best Way to See DC Landmarks

Here’s what sets a hot tub boat apart from a bus tour, a trolley or a crowded river cruise:
- It’s private. Your tub is yours alone, whether you book one tub or both.
- It’s warm all year. Hot tub temperatures are adjusted year-round, so you’re comfortable in any season.
- It’s BYOB. Guests 21 and older can bring beer, wine, champagne or hard seltzer. We provide coolers, cups, ice and water.
- It’s easy. A U.S. Coast Guard-licensed captain handles the route while deckhands pour drinks and take group photos.
Check availability for your DC hot tub boat cruise and see the city’s landmarks from the best seat on the river.
