The most accessible way to reach the airport is via the Metro’s Yellow and Blue lines. Alternatively, ask your airport dispatcher to provide a wheelchair taxi. You’ll also find accessible restrooms, designated parking, and elevators.

If you’re traveling with your family in tow, you can find children’s books, souvenirs, toys, and snacks at the Smithsonian Museum Store. Also, Ink by Hudson offers baby wipes and diapers.

Get the best view of airplanes flying overhead at Gravelly Point Park in Arlington, VA. This spot is actually on Runway 18’s direct path, so you’ll get the pleasure of seeing planes landing from extremely close up.

DCA vs. Dulles or BWI

DCA is best if you’re looking for a scenic domestic flight that puts you merely minutes from Downtown DC. When you’re flying into DCA, be sure to request a window seat. That way, you’ll get a good look at the scenic approach. Keep in mind that DCA only allows 62 flights to take off per hour. It is a smaller airport, though, so this shouldn’t cause problems.

Dulles (IAD) offers an extensive network of domestic and international flights. On the downside, it’s further away from DC. Plus, transportation options to DC are expensive. Alternatively, you can take public transportation, but it will take you a long time.

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BMI) isn’t connected to the WMATA Metro system, so you’ll need to make at least one connection to reach DC. However, it does typically offer cheaper flights.
